Assam State Judiciary 2020-21
Law Graduates who wish to become members of subordinate judiciary should write the entry-level exam which is the Judiciary exam or the PCS (J)-Provincial Civil Service-Judicial Examination.
This exam is uniformly divided into 3 stages of Preliminary, Mains and Interview, across all States in India.
The State government under the supervision of respective High Courts appoints members of the subordinate judiciary.
Selection process is further dependent on yearly vacancies/number of seats.
Judicial services offer several attractive features which include handsome perks and privileges including among others- rent-free accommodation, fuel allowances, subsidized electricity and water supplies, telephone allowances, and bursaries for children’s education.
ELIGIBILITY
- Must be holder of a Degree in Law granted by a recognized University established by law in India.
- Must not have completed, as on the last date fixed for receipt of applications 43 years of age in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes and 38 years of age in the case of others.
- A candidate must be a citizen of India as defined in Articles 5 & 6 of the Constitution of India.
- Detail scrutiny of the applications will be made after the declaration of the result of the main written examination. Hence the candidature of the applicants will be subject to furnishing true & correct information against the fields indicated in the online application form and fulfillment of the criteria mentioned in the advertisement. Suppression of any material facts and submission of any false documents will be entirely at the profile of the candidate.
SYLLABUS
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
The Preliminary Examination (Screening Test) shall consist of objective type questions of 100 marks, out of which 90 marks will cover General Knowledge, Aptitude, English, Constitution of India, Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Transfer of Property Act, Indian Contract Act, Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, Law of Torts and remaining 10 marks to test the proficiency in the Official Language (s) of the State of Assam (Assamese).

(c) Grammar etc.
Paper-II: General Knowledge
(a) Objective Type
(b) Aptitude Test

(d) Indian Contract Act
Paper-IV: Law Paper-II (100 Marks)
(a) Indian Penal Code
(b) Criminal Procedure Code
(c) Indian Evidence Act
(d) Law of Torts
Paper-V: Paper to test the Proficiency in the Official Language (s) of the State of Assam (50 Marks) ( Assamese) (Qualifying in nature) ( 50 marks)
INTERVIEW
Interview / Viva-voce: 50 marks
