Gujarat Judicial Services Exam 2020-21

Law Graduates who wish to become members of subordinate judiciary should write the entry-level exam which is the Judiciary exam or the PCS (J)-Provincial Civil Service-Judicial Examination.
This exam is uniformly divided into 3 stages of Preliminary, Mains and Interview, across all States in India.
The State government under the supervision of respective High Courts appoints members of the subordinate judiciary.

Selection process is further dependent on yearly vacancies/number of seats.

Judicial services offer several attractive features which include handsome perks and privileges inuding among others- rent-free accommodation, fuel allowances, subsidized electricity and water supplies, telephone allowances, and bursaries for children’s education.

Eligibility

Candidates willing to appear in the Gujarat Judicial Services exam must note that they should verify whether they fulfill the eligibility criteria laid down by the exam authority or not. This should be done prior to the application process. Candidates failing to fulfill the eligibility criteria will be eliminated from the later stages of the selection process. Below given are the necessary eligibility criteria for the Gujarat Judicial Services exam. 

1. Candidates must possess a degree in law from a university established by law in Gujarat or by another University of India recognized for this purpose by the Governor. 
2. Candidates must be practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and / or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last date fixed for submission of Online Application. 
3. Candidates, who have passed the Degree in Law from the academic year 2009-2010 and onwards, must have also passed the All India Bar Examination, in order to be considered as eligible for being termed as a Practicing Advocate. 
4. Candidates must be working in the Courts or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed for receipt of applications.
5. Candidates must have basic knowledge of computer operation. 
6. General Category candidates must not have crossed 35 years of age. 
7. SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Servicemen category candidates must not have completed 38 years of age. 
8. The employees working in the Courts shall be allowed on a relaxation of a maximum period of 05 years or to the extent of an equal number of years for which service has been put in by him/her, whichever is less, in the upper age limit. The Upper Age Limit for such Candidates under any Category shall not exceed 40 years.

Phase I Prelims

The Preliminary Exam (Elimination Test)  will be a Multiple Choice Questions based test of 100 Marks & 2 Hours’ duration, based on the Syllabus given below.

There will be Negative Marking of 0.33 Mark for each Wrong / Multiple Answer

Paper- I : (CRIMINAL) [Marks : 75, Duration : 02½ Hours]

• Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994

• The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 

Paper – II : (CIVIL) [Marks : 75, Duration : 02½ Hours]

• The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908

• The Specific Relief Act, 1963 
• The Gujarat Court Fees Act, 2004

Paper – III : (GUJARATI LANGUAGE) [Marks : 50, Duration : 01½ Hours]

Language of Question Paper-I & Question Paper-II of Main Written Examination shall be English. Answers to Questions of Papers I & II of Main Written Examination may be given either in English or in Gujarati, if not instructed otherwise.

The Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, securing minimum 45% Marks and all other Candidates securing minimum 50% Marks in the Main Written Examination shall be eligible for being called for Viva-voce (Oral Interview) Test, provided the Candidate has secured minimum 40% Marks in each paper

Phase III

Viva–Voce Test (Oral Personal Interview)

• Viva-voce Test shall be of 50 Marks.
• The object of the Viva-voce Test is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre, by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth, analytical ability and the like, of the candidate.
