Eligibility

The age limit is 21 to 32 years (not taking into account the other relaxation factors). The candidates shall at least hold a bachelor’s degree in any stream.

Prelims pattern and syllabus

Prelims have two papers (objective) of 2 hours each. There is a negative marking for each incorrect response, which is one-third of the marks allocated to each question. 

Paper 1 is the General awareness paper, with questions from various aspects like history, geography, economy, etc pertaining to the country.

Paper 2, on the other hand, is to test the English and general aptitude of the aspirants. It includes comprehension, logical reasoning, and basic quantitative aptitude.

Mains (descriptive part) with 3 hours time for each paper

The pattern for mains is as follows-

Paper 1 Essay writing 250 Marks

Paper 2 General Studies–I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography of the World and Society) 250 Marks

Paper 3 General Studies –II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations) 250 Marks

Paper 4 General Studies –III  (Technology, Economic Development, Bio‐diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management) 250 Marks

Paper 5 General Studies –IV (Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude) 250 Marks

Paper 6 Optional Subject – Paper 1 250 Marks

Paper 7 Optional Subject – Paper 2 250 Marks

For the candidates with the law as an optional subject, the syllabus for optional paper 1 includes constitutional law, administrative law, and international law. Whereas, paper 2 includes the law of crimes, the law of torts, contracts and mercantile law, and contemporary legal developments.
